I have spent a lot of time lately trying to work out exactly what I want out of my life. My priorities have changed so much from when I was studying wanting to become a lawyer, to actually working in a law firm, then realising that I am way too creative for this. So more studying to become an Interior Designer which then led to me starting Styled to Profit. I have been operational for over 5 years now and have loved every minute of it. However in that 5+ years I have had the opportunity to do quite a bit of travel and visit so many places on my bucket list, I have also had, who I believe of course, to be the most amazing little daughter who keeps me on my toes and busy having fun every day. I am now 30 weeks pregnant with our second bundle of joy who I just can't wait to meet. We have also renovated our first home, subdivided the block of land and built another house, we then moved into an older house and have been renovating that for around 12 months and have now received our planning permit to subdivide and build another house in our backyard.......because.....why not right??
On top of all of that I have been running a fun and what I consider to be successful business of styling homes for sale and attempting to maintain a blog. The blog part has been sadly missed on several occasions because I simply haven't been able to fit it all in. However now that I am having another baby in a few months I have realised that the life I am currently leading may not be suitable with 2 little beauties. Currently when I am styling a home I have little control over timing and little help. I have to cancel out a full day per job that may only take me 3 hours, and when I ask someone to babysit they are in the same situation, losing an entire day for only 3 actual hours of babysitting. When this happens a few times a week it is very frustrating, especially when I have no control over it whatsoever and only find out the delivery schedule on that morning!
I also have a garage and a bedroom in my home full of soft furnishings, my home only has 3 bedrooms so we really need this other bedroom for the nursery for the new baby. and we need to organise to empty the garage because it has to be pulled down as part of the subdivision....do you see my issues. I know these are all minor issues and can be very easily resolved or dealt with but when I think about everything together I feel that they are a lot bigger than they need to be. As I said above as well my priorities have changed so much, especially since I had my daughter. I want to spend my days with her, enjoying watching her growing up and playing around. I want to be able to take her to the park everyday and push her on the swing. I want to take her to sports, story time and music activities every week instead of when I can. I have also realised how important it is to look after myself as well, I want to get more exercise and eat better and do all of those things while looking after my kids. At this stage in my life I feel as though working just isn't a huge priority.
I am happy to work, don't get me wrong, and I really want to work in my passion industry, but working for myself is just becoming too difficult. It would be a lot easier to show up to work in the morning, do my job and finish at the end of the day at the same time, get paid each week and know exactly what to expect. I don't need to store stock or constantly change my babysitting times etc, and then on my days off, instead of focusing on marketing, doing my paperwork or bookkeeping I can actually play and have fun. Let me point out right now that I do not consider blogging to be a job, it is 100% a hobby of my that I love.
Therefore because of all of the above I have decided to close down the styling part of Styled to Profit. I have been thinking about this for quite some time now and finally decided to have the discussion with me husband. While I was freaking out and really unsure what his response would be, he was all 'no problem, you need to do what makes you happy'........best husband of the year award goes to ......MINE!!
I absolutely love being creative and styling homes but the way we're going, I will be styling a new home in a few months and I know that won't be the last. Whilst my styling might be on a budget with a few DIY's, it's still so much fun and I LOVE IT! I get the benefit out of it all, and even better, I can write detailed posts and share my fun projects with you all. I want to be able to not only spend more time with my kids but I also want to spend more time with you all, so more posts!!! My list is currently huge because I have new ideas and projects going on all the time but I never get the chance to do them properly. I have invested in some new photography lighting and am working my way towards a new fancy camera so I can take better photos for you and spend more time making them look fantastic. And the best part, while I plan on selling/donating majority of my stock, I will be holding onto some of my favourite pieces whether that be throws and cushions or homewares and decor. My stock cupboard is just so much fun and I find it really inspirational when I open it up.
So moving forward I hope to share all of my fun moving and styling posts in our new house. I will be sharing the fun building process with you and I still need to share our new ensuite and master bedroom, it has been finished for a while now and I still haven't snapped photos to share with you all, terrible I know! But as soon as my maternity leave commences, in approximately 4 weeks, my styling and furniture rental will be no longer, a sad day in my little home but feelings of relief are flooding through me right now that I know the future will be so much fun with two children and the millions of fun projects I have planned for my home....... I JUST CAN'T WAIT!!!
I hope you all haven't given up on my because of the massive text post, hang in there a bit longer and I promise it will be worth it, I have so many ideas to share with you, a new nursery to style and my daughters big girl room. My house is bursting at the seams with toys that need to be organised so be prepared for a few posts to help out with that and even some fun outdoor posts considering we have to do landscaping on our new place. So here's to a fun future together and some great reading!! Until next time.....
P.S. Did you like my random selection of photos just to keep the eyes open???
