Although you may not need to think about your retirement for a long time to come, making sure it’s something you’re going to look forward to is absolutely vital if you want to live a happy life. Unsurprisingly, the earlier you start preparing for your retirement, the easier it is to retire. Planning every detail in advance is just one of the many ways you can ensure you have a great retirement.

With that in mind, here are 5 things you should have to ensure you have for an incredible retirement:

1. A Considerable Amount Of Savings

Whilst this may seem obvious, when you stop working and retire, you stop earning an income. It may be a scary thought to process but the sooner you start saving, the better. Often people like to use their retirement as a time to do all of the things they didn’t have time to do when they were in full-time employment, so having enough money saved up to be able to do this will ensure you have the retirement you deserve.

2.      A Place To Live

Although some people like to remain in their own home throughout retirement, for some, moving into a new rescidence is all part of the fun. Whether you want to move to a new country, move into a much smaller flat - like these gorgeous small granny flats-  or you want ot move in with your family,  knowing your plans well in advance will certainly help.

3.     A New Hobby

When you retire you’ll have a lot of free time that you’re probably not used to. Whilst it will be nice at first, often people start to get a little bored of having so much time to themselves. If this sounds like you, it may be time to think about a hobby you can take up and continue into retirement. For some this is a new something action packed and filled with adventure, but for others it’s just a nice reason to get them out of the house every once in a while. Whichever you decide, make sure you do what’s best for you.

4.    A Solid Support Group

Retiring is often quite lonely for those that go through it alone, so if this is something you’re going to have to consider, make sure you have a solid support group of people around you. Ask your family and friends to visit after work, invite people around for dinner or simply take the time to go out for coffee with the ones you love. You’ll be thanking your self for it, I promise.

5.    A Sense Of Excitement

Above all else, retirement is an incredbily exciting time! You have finally reached the point where your working life is coming to an end and you can spend your time doing the things you’ve always wanted to do. Enjoy it!
